Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)
On Friday 24th June 2022, the BGS First VIII took a second trip to the infamous stretch of the river Thames at Henley to compete in the Henley Royal Regatta Qualifying races. The first time for a number of years that BGS have entered a crew into Henley Royal it was an exciting experience on a huge stage for our rowers. Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best-known regatta in the world and a highlight of both the summer sporting calendar and social season. The Regatta attracts thousands of visitors over the week, and spectators are thrilled by over 300 races of an international standard, which can include Olympic rowers, as well as crews new to the event. As a young crew, the BGS rowers put in a great performance and showed great promise for the future of racing at the regatta for the Boat Club. The BGS Boat Club have put in a fantastic effort this year to raise the standard of the Boat Club, and have certainly shown that an exciting future is in store for rowing at BGS. Well done to our Henley VIII for 2022: Alex Gentry, Lottie Giles, Aimee King, Anna Beckmann, Olivia Smith, Emily Pinkney, Millie Partridge, Emily Coughlin and Corinna Murphy.
The following week, on Tuesday 28th June, a group of senior rowing headed to Henley Royal Regatta for day one of racing. They had a fantastic day watching the best of the best race down the Henley track and understanding the way that the regatta operates when they compete in the future. Students certainly returned home after a beautiful day in the sunshine feeling inspired and motivated to continue to work hard towards Henley 2023!
As our regatta season draws to a close for 2022, on behalf of the coaching team, and all of our rowers we would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our supporters on the water over the past year. We look forward to celebrating our season at the Summer Rowing Ball, and enjoying a fun-filled afternoon at our House Rowing event on Monday 11th July, where we would love to see all of our supporters on The Embankment enjoying the racing.
