This week has seen the launch of our annual Year 10 advocacy programme, Giving Forward. Through a series of guided sessions, students will discuss a variety of social issues present in our local communities. Working in small groups, they will then narrow their focus down to one issue that they feel passionate about, and find a local charity that addresses that issue.
Over the coming weeks, students will be contacting their chosen charity, visiting them and finding out more about what they do to improve the lives of people in the community. Then students will put together a five-minute presentation about the charity, including a short video, to show what the charity does and why they deserve to win the £1000 grant money on offer.
Mrs Arrowsmith (CAS & Service Coordinator) said: “There are so many worthwhile charities based in our local community. The Giving Forward programme encourages our students to promote a charity of their choice, and potentially win them a substantial grant, while also developing their own key skills, such as research, teamwork and communication.”
