We are delighted to announce that Sasha Oddy (Year 7) has won a bronze medal at the BDO World Street Dance Championships, which took place at the K2 Crawley on the 22nd and 23rd October.

Competing in her first World Championships, Sasha claimed an impressive bronze medal in the U12 solo category, while her younger sister, eight-year-old Maya placed 5th in the U8 solo category.

Sasha who is currently a member of the Ampthill based team, Fundamentalz Dance, reflected: “When I realised I had to compete against 100 plus dancers in my category, I thought that’s it, I am not going to go through. But then Missy Elliotts’ song came on, a song that I practised so much to, I was so happy. I was confident and determined to win. And I did it, I made it to the final and finished 3rd in the U12 solo category. Hard work always pays off!”

Sasha continued: “During the lockdown periods, Maya and I spent our free time dancing and making fun TikTok videos with our family. A friend in our town, Mia Beaney, who was training with IMD Legion, a dance crew that featured on Britain’s Got Talent, started giving us dance lessons in our back garden when the first lockdown eased and when we were allowed to mix with up to six people.

“From there, the dance classes got bigger and Mia started teaching in a hall. Today there are over 100 children attending Mia’s dance school, Fundamentalz.”

Many congratulations to Sasha and her younger sister Maya!
