We are very proud to announce that BGS Head of Netball and former Wasps Netball Captain, Miss Huckle, will be representing Manchester Thunder in the upcoming 2023 Netball Super League (NSL).
After the administration of Wasps Netball in November 2022, Miss Huckle along with her teammates were out of contract. However, the NSL board activated an amendment to the NSL rules to reopen the player signing window to allow Wasps Netball players to be signed as training partners for other clubs, and to be able to take to court in the 2023 season as replacement players.
After impressive performances as a Goal Keeper in the 2022 season, which helped her Wasps side to the third-best defensive record in the league, Miss Huckle was signed up by Manchester Thunder initially as a Training Partner. However, following an unfortunate injury to Yasmin Roebuck, Miss Huckle claimed the 12th spot in the squad.
We spoke to Miss Huckle, she said: “Manchester Thunder have been incredibly supportive and I am so grateful to be picked up in a time where all team sheets were full. Following an unfortunate injury to one of the registered 12 squad players, I have been elevated to the match day 12. It is a really bitter sweet time as injuries are awful but I am being given a chance to play in the 2023 season, which is something I didn’t think I would get a chance to.
“I am still getting my head around actually playing this year, and playing for a different team but I am really looking forward to a new challenge and training and playing with the reigning champions.”
Miss Huckle is a four-time Netball Superleague Champion, winning trophies with Surrey Storm in 2015 and 2016 before guiding Wasps to victory in 2017 and 2018. She has three Senior England Caps and a gold medal in Netball Europe 2017.
Manchester Thunder begin their title defence against Celtic Dragons at the Season Opener in Nottingham on 11 February.
