We are thrilled to hear that alpine skier, Amelia Atherton (Year 7), has claimed a bronze medal at the recent Anglo Scottish Ski Championships (9-11th January) in Pila Aosta, Italy.
Competing against the UK’s best skiers, Amelia put in some amazing runs and placed 3rd (U12) in the Giant Slalom.
Amelia commented about her achievement and her academy, Apex2100: “Being part of the academy allows me to travel to many new destinations whilst also training hard for races. When I am not on the slopes, I spend a lot of time in the gym working on balance and strength training. My rest days allow me to ski off piste, which involves doing tricks or snowboarding.
“I enjoyed making the podium in Italy, I wanted to also podium in Super G and Slalom but didn’t quite make it but I was happy with my Giant Slalom bronze trophy.”
Amelia, who is currently a member of the International Ski Academy, Apex2100, which is based in Tignes, France, started skiing when she was 3 years old. From the age of 6, Amelia spent her winters in the French Alps where she joined a French Ski Club and would ski every weekend during the winter season with children in her age group. Amelia is now focusing on a podium place at the English Alpine Championships which take place in Bormio, Italy from 11th to 17th February 2023.
Many Congratulations, Amelia! We look forward to following your future skiing career with eager anticipation!
Amelia’s U12 event placings: Giant Slalom – 3rd, Slalom - 5th and Super G - 6th.
