We are thrilled for Lower Sixth student Anastasiia Paniushkina, who was invited by one of Ukraine’s top online media outlets, TSN.UA, to be a volunteer journalist at the world-famous London Fashion Week (17th – 21st February 2023).
The aspiring journalist joined BGS in 2022, having left her war-torn homeland of Kyiv, Ukraine. Anastasiia, was invited to the final wrap up show where three exceptional Ukrainian brands came together to showcase their designs. A momentous occasion for the designers amidst the ongoing horrors of war in their homeland.
Anastasiia was tasked to write a reportage, which gives you as the reader an insight and feel into the event. You can view her fantastic article here.
The Edit sat down with Anastasiia to find out a more about her passion for journalism and fashion:
“I’ve always been interested in journalism and how the power of words can make a real impact on the world, how articles can change lives, careers and the course of international relations. It’s really impressive how fast the industry actually works. It’s an unstoppable marathon with each journalist working for their team to find the news first and be first in everything.
“I was always intrigued when I was watching my mum working in the media, how she was travelling to the parliaments of different countries to interview famous politicians, going through unbelievable adventures to find exclusive news. I was inspired by how she was changing the history not only with her words and articles, but how she was one of the first people who started the 'online media' era in Ukraine moving on from a 'newspaper/magazines' era.
“I have been doing journalism for a few years prior to beginning my journey with TSN.UA, which began in 2020. My specialist area is working at fashion weeks and art related events. I'm really passionate about media, art and cinematography. This has led me to also taking part in international black and white photography contests. Working in this industry has allowed me to have an incredible experience.
“I would love to continue my career in this industry and hope to study either marketing or international relations at university. In the meantime, I’m eager to continue my journalism work as I think the media is a powerful tool that can make the world better.”
We are very proud that Anastasiia is part of our community, enriching the lives of those around her, and we look forward to following her journalism pursuits.
