Can you build a business with only £10? This was the challenge we set for our Year 8 students this Spring, who came together in House groups to build a business idea.
Fast paced and fun, the Tenner Challenge introduces students to enterprise and finance, and enhances key skills such as communication, creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and confidence.
The end of term marketplace was buzzing – with our Year 8 entrepreneurs busily selling toys, games, sweets, and keepsakes. The event was a great success, and Year 8 raised £180 for the FACES charity. Our teams worked really hard, and the atmosphere was very exciting.
The winners of this year’s Tenner Challenge were Bella, Elise, Sophie, and Jia. Their incredible upcycled adopt-a-bear business was inspiring - and demonstrated sustainability awareness, enterprise, and innovation skills. The group reflected:
“We decided to do this sale because we think it is a good way to create a sustainable way to reuse the toys and different materials for a very reasonable price. The way we earned our money was by making outfits out of cheap but quality materials from Amazon and Hobby Craft and selling the donated teddies with them.
“The Tenner Challenge is a really good idea and has brought us together as a House and as friends since we wouldn’t normally work in a group together. We really enjoyed all aspects of the challenge because it has pushed us out of our comfort zone and helped be more bold, imaginative, reflective and creative, we all worked collaboratively and included everyone’s ideas like how Bella made dog beds, Elise made some very cute bags, Jia made some accessories and Sophie made pretty dresses.”
Bravo to all involved, and the Business team is already looking forward with anticipation to Tenner Challenge 2024!
