By Mrs Harrold (Head of Psychology)
On Wednesday 28th June, four of our A Level students headed to the Royal Holloway University campus to take part in the in-person round of their National Psychology Competition.
Kate Emerson, Elisabeth Markham, Leyla Nurettin and Nicole Pitter produced an informative video and very professional looking poster on the psychology behind misinformation. On the day, they had to explain and justify their ideas, and their research methods, to 2 judges from the university's Psychology Faculty, competing with 29 teams from across the country. Although the team did not win a prize on this occasion, the students did themselves proud, representing BGS with confidence and clarity.
The students gained a lot from the experience, both in terms of deepening their psychological knowledge and independent research skills and in learning material and new approaches from the work of the other candidates. They were also treated to two interesting university style lectures and had the opportunity to explore the Royal Holloway campus. They described the day as 'eye-opening' and 'a good opportunity to meet new people and learn from what they have done.' It was an enjoyable day and the students did gain a lot from the experience.
