The last couple of weeks have seen the launch of our annual Year 10 advocacy programme, Giving Forward. Students take part in a series of guided sessions, in which they discuss a variety of social issues present in our local communities. They are currently working in small groups, to narrow their focus down to one issue that they feel passionate about, and find a local charity that addresses that issue.
Over the coming weeks, students will be in touch with their chosen charity, visiting them and finding out more about what they do to improve the lives of people in the community. Students will then work in their groups to put together a five-minute presentation about the charity, including a short video, to show what the charity does and why they deserve to win the £1000 grant money on offer.
Mrs Arrowsmith (CAS & Service Coordinator) said: “The Giving Forward programme has a real significance for our community. It encourages our students to promote a local charity of their choice, and potentially win them a substantial grant, while also developing their own key skills, such as research, teamwork and communication. I was truly inspired by some of last year’s presentations and can’t wait to see which charities the current Year 10 will celebrate and support.”
