By Mrs Horton (Drama Teacher)
On Thursday 21st September, the Years 10 to Upper Sixth drama students went on a theatre trip to see the excellent play Metamorphosis by Frantic Assembly.
The play was awe inspiring with its incredible acrobatics as the protagonist, Gregor Samsa climbed the walls of the stage and hung from the ceiling light depicting his role as a giant beetle. There were moments of amazement as we realised the room in the middle of the stage had started to move on a revolve, and that the walls which we had previously thought were solid were actually all made of material which the actors could mysteriously appear and disappear through. At intervals we could hear the sound effects of rats and mice playing all around us, really making us feel like we were part of the action.
Both the students and staff enjoyed the performance immensely.
Millie describes the show as “a great depiction of the huge secrets any ordinary people could be hiding”. Isabella noted it was “an interesting way to display cruelty and kindness”. Whilst Rosie enthused “I loved the way the dialogue was written in poetry and it was a real work of art” and Jeanie summarises with “an amazing, thrilling piece of drama to watch.”
