Chocks away at Board Games Club
It's been fantastic to see many of our co-curricular clubs up and running, with numerous staff and students participating in fun and engaging activities during lunchtime and after school.
This week, Mr Stretton and Mr Rodgers give you an insight into the ever-popular Board Games Club.
“On the coast of France, a prototype bomber was escorted by planes from the Central Powers this week at Board Games Club as a squadron from various Allied Powers attempted to bring it down.
We all enjoyed the chance to play Wings of Glory, bringing all 15 or so current club members together into one game which took up most of the classroom!
One of the strengths of the club is that we have members from Years 7 through to the Upper Sixth and staff playing games together, laughing, getting to know each other and making careful plans. (They are also learning all sorts of skills from complex prioritisation to problem solving and teamwork whilst also learning how to compete fairly and with kindness and respect).
In this case after an exciting final round the Allied Powers just managed to damage the bomber enough to destroy it, setting the Central Powers’ war effort back significantly. Well done to all involved – it was such a lovely atmosphere with lots of respect shown for the fact we were playing a game about World War 1 alongside lots of fun, teamwork and clever thinking.
Board games club is open to all Senior School students and staff. We meet on Tuesdays from 16:15 to 17:30 and play a large variety of board games and roleplaying games including Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Seven Wonders and Dungeons and Dragons. Onwards to next week!
