Senior School Music

By Mrs Jones (Music Teacher)

Year 10 Musicians were left ‘Dancing through life’ after their trip to London earlier this week (Wednesday 15th November) to see the hugely ‘Popular’ story of the Wicked Witch of the West; Wicked! Part of the GCSE Music course, the music (written by Stephen Schwartz) alongside the set, effects, costume and phenomenal performances provided a truly ‘Wonderful’ experience which was at times, Defying Gravity!

As part of the Edexcel Music syllabus, GCSE students study Music for Stage and Screen. We look at how music has developed over time and how the role of music in cinema and on the stage hails from the grand opera of the late 1900’s. This area of study focuses on character themes and breaks down the music, teaching students to analyse by looking at the melodic and harmonic movement. It is also a hugely popular musical and sung frequently by our students, to hear the music performed so magnificently it brought our study off the analysis page to life in front of our eyes.

Our One Short Day in London will certainly be one that will live long in memory and be remembered For Good
