Congratulations to Isla Campbell, Year 11, who has been selected for the official England U16 hockey squad.
Isla will be competing against Ireland as a member of the squad during the February Hockey camp. The training camp versus Ireland lasts for three days and consists of three matches, fitness testing and training sessions.
Isla was scouted for the trials at the Cambridge Talent Academy last summer. However, sadly a severe injury meant she was unable to attend a training camp until December.
Isla first found a love of hockey playing for the Blueharts U8s, she started representing the Ladies 3rd team, along with her Mum as soon as she turned 13 and has been representing the Blueharts First team since she was 14. Isla plays for the BGS First XI helping secure our success in the ISHC championships earlier this week.
Isla said: “I am so grateful for all of the opportunities that I had to develop my hockey to reach this point, and I am ecstatic to have found out I have been selected for the 2023-24 U16 England squad. Especially after being out of hockey due to injury, I am very excited to fully throw myself back into high intensity hockey when I play my first international game next week!”
Director of Sport, Mrs Mason-Mcleod, added: “We are all exceptionally proud of Isla’s outstanding achievement. Her commitment and dedication to the sport is inspiring. She has worked hard coming back from an injury and deserves the recognition she has achieved. We will all be cheering her on in the games against Ireland.”
