By Mrs Jones (Music Teacher)
On Thursday 29th February, the Music Department hosted the second session of the Young Composer’s Project funded by Bedford Music Hub and in association with Philharmonia Orchestra and we welcomed students from a number of schools across Bedford into BGS.
Following our introductory workshop in November, including introduction to instrumental sounds and methods of composition. Each school subsequently chose one or two students whose work showed promise, and these pieces were brought to the second session last week. Each piece was played by the instrumentalists and compositional ideas were shared in a workshop for each individual student. It was such a wonderful opportunity to have players of such renown bringing the compositions to life and hugely valuable to be able to hear music from young composers from other schools as well.
Rosemary (Year 10) said: “My piece is a work in progress at the moment, but hearing the instrumentalists play it live hugely helped me develop my initial ideas to create something exciting.”
Mia (Year 10) added: “Working with such esteemed musicians has greatly helped my GCSE composition and my process as a composer.”
We are looking forward to hearing the completed pieces performed by the Philharmonia players in the final performance evening, which will be held here in the Randle Hall on Monday 13th May 2024.
