By Mrs Cruse (Head of Years 7 and 8)
At the start of the academic year, students in Year 8 formed a Committee to raise awareness and funds for the school charity, FACES (Family and Children’s Early-help Services).
The Committee has been working hard to raise awareness and support for the local charity, pushing themselves out of their comfort zones. To build on the Service afternoon in December, the Committee decided to hold a Whole School collection so the Easter Bunny could visit FACES.
The CEO of FACES, Michaela Martindale, was absolutely thrilled with the Easter egg donations and arts and crafts materials and is looking forward to the upcoming art and craft sessions this week at FACES.
On the evening of Friday 22nd March, Year 8 had a movie night to raise funds for the charity, during which they watched the movie Hop to start thinking about the upcoming holiday. I am looking forward to seeing the ideas and initiatives the Committee has for the Summer Term as they prepare to hand over to Year 7.
Annabelle Fletcher (Year 8) said: “When I first joined the FACES Committee, I thought I was just going to design posters and stick them up or stand behind the table at the bake sale. However, I was proven wrong. Not only have I helped plan for future projects, but I have actively carried them out too. The aim of our Easter donation project was to provide Easter eggs and activities for those who are less fortunate. When I first looked into the collection box, I was overwhelmed by the amount we had collected. It made me feel proud that I could even help someone.”
Ava Hanson (Year 8) added: “We joined the FACES Committee because we all wanted to help the charity and raise more awareness to others. The charity is a great way to spread happiness throughout Bedford, and I am very glad I joined.”
