All of our BGS rowers were in action again last weekend (18th and 19th May) competing at two very exciting, and beautiful, venues.

On Saturday, our Year 9 rowers headed to Blenheim Palace to compete at Blenheim Palace Junior Regatta. Staged on a stunning lake in the grounds of Blenheim Palace, the event offers a rare opportunity for young and, often, first-time scullers to experience multi-lane competitive racing in a friendly and welcoming environment. Our year 9s competed in quads racing over 500m. Following the time trial, three of our quads qualified into the B final, and two into the A final. In two incredibly close finals, our quads put in some fantastic rows to finish placed 2nd-6th overall in their event. The day concluded with arguably the best ice cream of the season so far!

On Sunday, Year 9-13 travelled to London and competed on the Royal Albert Docks at Poplar Regatta. Ahead of the National Schools Regatta this coming weekend, this was a fantastic event for all of our crews to experience multi-lane racing on a 2km course with the added excitement of rowing next to the planes landing at London City Airport! With the majority of crews entering, making competitive finals, and a win for our J14 Quad in one of their first multi-lane events! Well done to everybody that raced.!

With the rowing season well and truly in full swing, we again would like to extend a huge thank you to everybody in the BGS community for coming down to the riverbanks and supporting our rowers. We now look forward to a big weekend ahead at the National Schools’ Regatta, followed closely by Peterborough Regatta as our second race during the half term break.
