A Wicked Trip!

Senior School Music

Year 10 and Year 11 students, along with their teachers, had a fantastic experience on Wednesday watching Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in the West End.

The show’s most iconic number, Defying Gravity, is one of the set works for the GCSE Music course, and it was thrilling for students to see the song in its original context. Performed as the powerful Act 1 finale, it brought to life Elphaba’s stirring decision to defy the not-so-wonderful Wizard and take a stand against the greed and corruption rooted in the land of Oz.

The journey to the theatre was filled with its own energy, as BGS students took the opportunity to perform an impromptu rendition of ABBA’s Dancing Queen in St. Pancras Station. A lively crowd gathered to enjoy our busking efforts, which may not quite have had the polish of the West End cast but certainly matched them in spirit and enthusiasm!

It was an unforgettable day of music, drama, and a little bit of Oz magic!
