On Monday (1st February) a group of Sixth Form A Level and IB Geographers visited Bedford School to listen to an after school lecture presented by Dr Chris Keylock from the University of Sheffield.
An expert in avalanche management, Dr Keylock’s talk was entitled Evolving risk from avalanches in France, Iceland and Japan, which linked tectonic hazards and considered relative vulnerability.
The topic, useful for the IB Hazards module and A Level Plate Tectonics unit, provided the girls with a chance to widen their geographical knowledge.
In addition, Dr Keylock explained the expectations universities have of prospective students, and gave some tips as to how this could be achieved. He ended the lecture by advising the audience on the relative merits of a Geography degree.
