The U11 hockey team became IAPS regional champions after winning all eight of their matches at Bishop Stortford College on Friday (7th October).

The IAPS tournament is the biggest competition in the country for the U11 age group, and BGS showed great composure to reach the National Finals for the second consecutive year at Repton School next month.

Winning all four of their pool matches without conceding a goal, and scoring 16 goals in the process, BGS beat Forest School 5-0 in the last 16 to set up a quarter final clash with Laxton Juniors.

With scores level at 1-1 after normal time BGS needed a golden goal to send them through to the last four, where they beat Chesham Prep School 4-0.

After initially going behind 1-0 to MK Prep School in the final, the girls showed plenty of character to eventually run out 4-1 winners.
Mrs Howlett, PE teacher, said: “The girls showed a composure and readiness beyond their years throughout the day, especially against Laxton and MK Prep.

“We head into the Nationals in Derbyshire full of confidence and ready to have a tilt at becoming the best team in the country.”

Squad – Freya Arnold, Ameilia Barrow-Jones, Megan Brook, Gabi Woodroffe-Gomez, Megan Howlett, Sophia Knight, Natasha Miller, Olivia O’Dell, Nana Osei-Bonsu, Lauren Whitlock.
