BGS students and county cricketers Izzy Gurney, Harriet Knights and Alexa Wilson were invited to the first-ever women's coaching session run by former England captain and Sky Sports presenter Charlotte Edwards, CBE.
Charlotte’s accolades include over 10,000 international runs, a captaincy record of 220 times, leading England to three Ashes Series wins, a World Cup and World Twenty20 titles to name a few. She certainly brought her wealth of experience to bear on this unique session.
Charlotte recommended the girls first seek to perfect their basic batting shots with a view to making these a natural reaction, and worked through a variety of drills over the course of the outdoor session before umpiring a short match.
Izzy Gurney was inspired by the session and said: “Charlotte hit every practice shot perfectly, she is such an inspiration to younger women progressing in their skills set. She also was a key figure in the establishment of central contracts for women, which created England's first full-time women's professional cricketers in 2014.”
