On Sunday 10th September, Year 9 set off on their annual Educate Girls India sponsored walk, launching this year's fund and raising awareness of the charity, which focuses on the lack of educational opportunities for girls in parts of rural India.
The girls walked 10 miles through the Bedfordshire countryside, replicating the distance many young girls in India walk daily just to receive a basic education. The girls set off at 10.30am along the Embankment to the Danish Camp for a refreshment break. After an entertaining walk to Blunham, the girls enjoyed a picnic before heading back to school.
Mrs Cruse commented; “Year 9 students are asked to work as a group to raise awareness and funds for Educate Girls India. This project helps the girls to develop a global outlook and to think about important issues of global equality but it also encourages them to step out of their comfort zones and work as a team as all the activities are entirely student led. The walk was a great way to start the year.”
