Sixth Form Geography

Ms March (Head of Geography)

Last weekend Lower Sixth Geography students went on a field trip to North Yorkshire to enhance skills and techniques they would need to fulfil their independent enquiries.

The group started in Beverley investigating urban microclimates. A transect of microclimate stations were set up to investigate the urban heat island effect. The following day centred around the traditional seaside resort Scarborough as the students considered “perception and reality of Place”.

A little rain didn’t put the girls off and iPads were used to collate, analyse and then present data gathered using a technique called Emotional Mapping.

On the final morning, the sun appeared and we visited Flamborough Head to study coastal processes and coastal landscapes. The girls observed and sketched some of the major and minor features of Selwicks Bay and High Stacks.

The girls worked hard in the day and evening sessions and showed considerable appreciation of the tuition received and the Cranedale facilities. They are now armed with plenty of data and knowledge in key areas of their curriculums.
