Mr Jeffryes (Mathematics Teacher)

On Tuesday morning, students in the Lower and Upper Sixth participated in the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge. The Mathematical Challenge aims to stimulate mathematical problem solving.  The questions on the paper are designed to challenge students to think, not to guess!

An example of a question on this year’s paper is:-

The positive integer 2018 is the product of two primes.

What is the sum of these two primes?

A 1001 B 1010 C 1011 D 1100 E 1101

The girls have a chance to get a bronze, silver or gold certificate if they are in the top 40% of the UK from all those students taking the challenge. They also have the opportunity to take the Senior Kangaroo Challenge or British Mathematical Olympiad if they score very highly, reaching an as yet to be determined threshold score.’
