Judith Tarrant (Upper Sixth)

On Tuesday afternoon, the Sixth Form historians attended a webinar lecture delivered by Dr Miriam Dobson, who is a senior lecturer in 20th century Russian history at the University of Sheffield.

The lecture was titled ‘the New Soviet Woman’ and explored the family policy, particularly its impact on women, under Tsarist, Leninist and Stalinist regimes, with particular focus on ‘The Great Retreat’ of the 1930s and whether or not ‘The Great Retreat’ is an appropriate classification of the period.

Beyond the diverting content, the webinar also provided an interesting insight into university style teaching and the valuable opportunity to engage directly with an academic.
