Mrs Morgan (Senior School Eco Co-ordinator)

On Wednesday, members of the Junior and Senior Eco Council took part in the schools version of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.

The lead up to the event had seen the girls making and hanging birdfeeders to encourage various species of birds to our garden in Burnaby House.

This had the desired effect as our birdwatching team saw a wide range of differing species such as blackbirds, blue tits, magpies and robins.

It was also pleasing to see house sparrows, a bird species which has been on the decline and has a ‘Red’ UK Conservation status (the highest conservation priority). The count of each species of bird spotted will now be submitted to the RSPB where they will be collated with all the other results to provide a picture of how birds are faring across the UK.
