Mrs Martin (Head of Year 3)

Gruesome as it may seem, ancient Egyptians removed selected internal organs and placed them into special jars as preparation for their safe delivery into the Afterlife.

As part of the Mummy’s Quest, Unit of Enquiry, Year 3 girls designed and made their own Canopic jars. They used hieroglyphic patterns and animals related to Egyptian beliefs reflecting links between their understanding of the important rituals in Ancient Egypt and how this differs to our own.

Using strategy planning skills, the girls had to consider the materials needed to complete this activity and explain how they would use joining techniques to ensure the finished product was stable and secure.

We have been very impressed with the empathy and open-mindedness the girls have shown in the beliefs and rituals of other cultures.
