Mrs Baker (Year 5 teacher)

As part of their Grand Designs Unit of Enquiry, Year 5 have been studying the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Inspired by his work and their recent trip to London, each class worked collaboratively to paint their own abstract painting of the city.

The girls began by producing their own individual interpretations of different London landmarks.  The Shard, the Gherkin and Tower Bridge were amongst some of the most popular buildings to inspire the girls. Using bold colours and abstract lines, they created some unique new buildings.

Once the individual buildings were painted, the girls began to consider the background to their artwork. Discussion and planning took place, enabling all girls to put forward their vision and ideas for its execution. Sponges and brushes were the medium of choice and bold colours, the order of the day. Before long, their vision of London became a reality and these works of art are proudly displayed in each of the Year 5 classrooms.
