On Monday 25th February, the Careers department were delighted to welcome back DAHS alumna (2011) Ellie Pryer for a Lunchbox Lecture.
A Fine Art graduate from the University of Oxford, Ellie gave an inspiring talk to girls from Years 9 upwards about studying Fine Art at university, and setting up her own calligraphy and stationery business.
Ellie provided a really good insight on how you can progress through the art industry, and what a Fine Art degree entails. This was an eye opening talk, that demonstrated the problems she faced and how she persevered through initial challenges to benefit her growing calligraphy business, by following her passion.
It was very inspiring to see the development of her new business over such a short period of time. The session ended with an opportunity to ask questions, which allowed us to build a better picture about the logistical aspect of her career.
Mrs Lugsden (Head of Art and Technology) said: “We were thrilled to welcome Ellie back into the Art Department and to hear about her experiences studying Art at Oxford, and then her subsequent time working for Sotheby’s. It was inspiring to see the work she is producing now as she builds her calligraphy business. I am so proud of her, and wish her every success as she works to develop and grow her own business.”
