It’s been a busy but incredible beginning to 2019 for talented performing artist Ishani Patel (Year 9), who has been awarded a Diploma in Bharatanatyam Dance and place in the choir for the tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
In January, Ishani received her Diploma from the Bhavan UK in Bharatanatyam Dance, which is an Indian classical dance that originated from South India, Tamil Nadu.
Today Bharatanatyam in India is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by male and female dancers around the world. Ishani has been dancing for five years now travelling up to London both Saturday and Sunday every week.
The three-year diploma course includes learning dance, Sanskrit language and vocal training, with written and practical exams a each year. She continues classes at the Bhavan as a senior student and is now taking a Two-year post diploma.
In February, Ishani auditioned with 200 other children for the choir for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which is currently touring the UK. She received a place in the choir and will be performing with the show when it is in Milton Keynes, Theatre from the 9th to 13th April.
