Mr Mason-Mcleod (Head of Hockey)

After a very successful BGS Sports Awards evening on the Friday 3rd May, Maddie Axford (Year 11) had to shoot up to Glasgow to represent England U18 against Scotland over Saturday and Sunday in a two match series. On Saturday, the U18s won their first game 3-0 with Maddie scoring one goal. On Sunday, Maddie scored again in a 4-1 victory over Scotland. Scoring two goals is a massive achievement especially when Maddie is studying hard for her GCSE examinations.

We are also delighted to see Florence Miller (Year 10) has been selected to attend an England Hockey National Age Group training camp this weekend. Florence will spend three days being coached by England Hockey’s top National age group coaches. We wish Florence good luck at the camp.

Megan Howlett (Year 8) and Lauren Whitlock (Year 8) represented Cambridge City U14 hockey team in the England Hockey National Club Final. The girls faced tough matches against Marlow, Thirsk and the eventual winners, Surbiton Hockey Club. Unfortunately, the girls came 4th in their group and didn’t qualify for any of the play-off spots. Well done to Megan and Lauren for reaching the finals of such a high calibre tournament.

Finally, three Year 8 girls have been selected to attend the England Hockey Performance Centre trials this month. Natasha Miller, Lauren Whitlock and Amelia Barrow-Jones have been asked to join the U15 Performance group and hopefully after the trial they will be asked to join the U15 Performance squad.
