Sixth Form

On Monday, Lower Sixth students from BGS, Bedford School and St Helen’s School engaged in an Oxbridge Day workshop. Hosted by Independent Thinkers Education at BGS, the full day event provided up-to-date information about courses, clearly outlining the admissions process.

The aim was for students to leave having gained a deeper insight into what Oxbridge courses involve and an understanding of how both universities assess applications.

During the workshop, the students gained useful information as to what Oxbridge admissions tutors are looking for, in their written work (if requested, for humanities subjects) and personal statements – as well as more broadly, in term the attributes and knowledge the tutors expect.

Sessions included mock tutorials on Modern Democracy, Literary Criticism and Graph Sketching. The day also covered BMAT preparation, relevant for students seeking to study medicine, veterinary science or some dentistry courses.

Mrs Everitt (Oxbridge Co-ordinator) said: "The day was very successful, with students having the opportunity to attempt mock entrance test questions with other individuals, and to explore ideas relevant to the application process. A special 'thank you' to the students from BGS, who acted as wonderful hosts.”
