Talented swimmer Megan Barnicoat (Year 4) has been working hard to keep her fitness levels up. There have been many different and new activities Megan has been doing, like skipping, boxing, strength and core workouts, plus running and long bike rides, to keep things interesting. The latest new challenge Megan has started is open water swimming at Box End Lake. She has, so far, swam the equivalent of the English Channel.

Megan reflected on her swim training at Box End Lake, she said: “It is strange as it is always cold, there are weeds, fish, swans and geese as you swim round. I am not used to swimming continuously for 800 metres at a time, but I am now getting used to it.  It is not easy to keep fit during this time but I know if I put the work in now it will help when training and racing starts again.'

Megan is mainly a competitive swimmer but is now keen to branch out and try a triathlon. She has enjoyed spotting Mr Castro (Head of Swimming) and Mrs Milton (PE teacher) at Box End Lake as well as older girls from BGS who swim competitively. All her training is fitted in around remote learning timetable so she is busy!
