It was wonderful to feel the energetic buzz, hear the chatter and see the classrooms full of smiley faces once again, as the whole school opened its doors on Thursday 3rd September. For many students it was a morning of sheer joy, when they could finally reconnect with friends again in their year group bubbles, even with safety and hygiene rules in place.
The pandemic has been a chance for many to slow down and reconsider what matters most. Our sense of community spirit has grown as we witnessed so many heart-warming BGS community initiatives, which lifted our spirits during lockdown. The social connections we once took for granted remind us how much joy comes from real human interaction in the classroom.
Mrs Gibson (Headmistress), reflected: “From a personal perspective it has been an absolute delight to welcome the girls into School, and I know that the staff feel the same way. It has been lovely for me to be able to greet so many of them on their arrival each day and hear their cheery greetings.
“It has also been a pleasure to chat with them as they enjoy their lunch and see them getting stuck into their learning during lessons. I know that everyone might be feeling a little tired, with so many new routines to take on, but the girls have adapted to the new situation with determination and positivity. I couldn’t be prouder of them!”
Mrs Howe (Head of Junior School), added: “I have really enjoyed welcoming our pupils back to the Junior School this week. The school feels vibrant and full of energy once again. I am so proud of the way in which the children have adapted to the new routines and embraced being back in our learning community, working and playing together in their bubbles. I am looking forward to spending time in all the classes over the next few weeks.”
Leigh-Ann Cudjoe (Head Girl), said: “As a student, it has been really nice to see all of my friends and teachers again in our new normal. I think we all really appreciate how valuable face-to-face lessons really are. As expected, some of us were quite anxious, but after the first two days, we settled in and embraced the new rules. For the first few mornings, the GLG and I were on hand to guide girls to their entrances. I loved meeting some of the new girls as we welcomed them in, which was amazing to see, especially for our campaign, something you will be hearing a lot more about!"
