Mrs Clements (Physics Teacher)

This week, our Year 10 Physics students have been investigating electrostatics as an intro to Electrical circuits in their iGCSE course. During the lesson, Megan Howlett volunteered to become statically charged using the Van der Graaf generator.

A Van de Graaff generator is an electrostatic generator which uses a moving belt to accumulate electric charge on a hollow metal globe on the top of an insulated column, creating very high electric field potentials.

Covid regulations were observed but the fine dry weather and Megan's open mindedness facilitated the demonstration of a superb example of electrostatic charge. The class were able to develop their skills of strategy planning and intellectual confidence.

Mrs Clements (Physics Teacher), said: “It’s so good to be back in the Physics labs, picking up where we left off at the end of the summer term. We were lucky to be able to maintain the teaching, albeit virtually, last term, but teachers and pupils appreciate the chance to use practicals and face-to-face conversations to really bring Physics to life.”
