Mrs Bezzer (English Teacher)

All students are cordially invited to participate in this year’s Poetry By Heart competition – a national competition which involves, as its name suggests, performing poetry by heart.

The rules are very simple:

Join the Google Classroom HERE.

Choose two poems you love from the Poetry By Heart website (one published before 1914 and one published after 1914) HERE.

Learn them by heart.

Perform them.

Upload your poetry performances to the Google Classroom by Friday 5th March 2021

Every entry will be awarded a House Point and the winners in each Key Stage* will go through to be judged by the Poetry By Heart team.

The best performances will then be invited to attend a national event later this year, where an expert panel of poet judges and educators will judge the best performances and a national winner will emerge for each Key Stage!

Whether you are a Speech and Drama student or have never before recited so much as one line in a school play; whether you are a poetry aficionado or prefer prose to verse; whether you love being in the spotlight or are simply looking for a new challenge in 2021, we are looking forward to seeing your Poetry By Heart entries and know we will be inspired and amazed at each and every performance.

Don’t forget to join the Google Classroom now - you’ll find all the information, resources and support you need to help you make your performance video the best ever!
