Mrs Wathen (Head of Biology)

On Wednesday 23rd June, the Lower Sixth Biology students spent the day at Cople Fields carrying out field work. The students were introduced to random and systematic sampling using quadrats and transects.

The A Level students planned a core practical investigating how an abiotic factor can affect the distribution of a biotic factor. Students worked in pairs to plan the investigation and carry out their data sampling. A wide range of investigations covered enquiries such as how the effect of height up the tree affecting the growth of lichen to how light intensity affected the distribution of the grass Holcus lanatus.

The IB students planned and collected the data for their IA. The weather was glorious and the students were fantastic. A very productive day had by all!
