As part of the Lower Sixth PSHE course, the students took part in some basic first aid training this week, including CPR and the recovery position, as well as how to assess danger and how to decide whether CPR is required. Each student was then able to have a go at assessing a ‘patient’ and then attempt chest compressions on a resuscitation manikin. If you want to learn more about CPR, please visit the British Heart Foundation website HERE.
Miss Dawson (Biology Teacher) reflected: “CPR is a valuable skill that we teach and practise with our students at several points during the PSHE curriculum in order to keep the knowledge fresh in their minds. Having witnessed a friend have a cardiac arrest while at university due to an undiagnosed heart condition, and the recent cardiac arrest suffered by footballer Christian Eriksen at the European Championships, knowing that our students feel more prepared and able to step in in a similar scenario is important.”
