Sunday 12th September saw our talented BGS Ski Team compete in the British Schoolgirls’ Indoor Races. There were over 100 students competing in the races and as a school we were proud to place 17th out of the 36 teams that entered.

The Team consisted of Holly Tutt (Year 10) and Charlotte Peck (Year 10) competing in the U16 age group and Charlotte Parnham (Year 11) competing in the U19 age group. They all competed in the two runs of the individual slalom and in the parallel slalom relay event where they went head-to-head against Cheltenham Ladies College, in a thrilling race.

Team Captain and GB skier Holly Tutt, set the bar high skiing her individual slalom run 1 in 15.16s – putting her first in her age group. Her second slalom run astonished the crowd with a time of 15.24s. This put Holly not only as winner of her individual age group but with a combined time of 30.40s which allowed her to take the overall title across all age groups!

Miss Higginson (Head of Year 9) who is the Team Manager reflected: “All members of the team achieved their own individual successes as well as their success as a team. We were grateful to the parents who supported the team in the lead up to and on the day, a real team BGS effort and sense of community! We cannot wait to compete again in the future.”

The skiers commented:

Holly Tutt: “It was a great experience to be able to see how the rest of my team skied and to be able to include the school in my skiing. I’m really happy that I was not only 1st in my age group but also overall female as there was also an older GB competitor in the race.”

Charlotte Peck: “I’ve only ever skied on the alps before so, for me, the day was a brilliant experience. It was nice skiing as a team and getting the chance to see Holly and many others skiing which was brilliant!”

Charlotte Parnham: “I have been skiing and racing at the MK Snowzone since I was seven years old! It was an honour to represent the school in a big competition and it was a really enjoyable day. As a team, we have learned a lot about how each other skied, especially when we did the parallel slalom as a relay race.”
