On Monday 22nd November, Sixth Form students travelled down to London Blackfriars to visit Tate Modern.
The jewel in the crown of modern art galleries in London, it holds the nation's collection of modern art from 1900 to the present day.
The students were able to freely roam the galleries to view the work on display. This was a valuable experience to gather evidence for their coursework assessment.
Students saw a massive range of artists work from different genres and cultures including; Art from Australia, Patricia Belli’s pieces made from recycled clothing, Sarah Sze’s Seamless, built with familiar objects from everyday life and Cecilia Vicuna’s red felt hanging entitled; Quipu Womb. Students will use some of the artist’s work to help develop their own practical work.
Alex Harrison and Anna Cooke (Upper Sixth) said: “The Tate Modern was an amazing and educational experience where we discovered many new artists and a wide range of different styles. There was a large variety of exhibitions which inspired us all with our own art projects and gave a plethora of new ideas.”
Back in the studio, students will now compile a sketchbook page within their coursework analysing some of the pieces they saw on the day.
