After an action-packed term of training, our BGS Combined Cadet Force (CCF) students together with boys from Bedford School were ready to compete in the RAF Air Squadron Trophy competition.
Last Sunday a team of 14 Cadets headed to Shuttleworth for the Eastern Area competition, The team was formed of 12 students from Bedford School, and two students from BGS; Anika Dutta (Upper Sixth) and Izzy Jackson (Year 11).
The competition was broken down into six sections: air rifle shooting, command tasks, RAF knowledge, aircraft recognition, first aid and drill. The team placed 2nd in the target shooting event despite being unfamiliar with the class of rifle.
The team placed 8th out of the 14 schools competing, which is a fantastic result!
Izzy Jackson (Year 11) who is a Corporal said: "The competition was hard but a great experience. I picked up lots of new skills, and I’m proud that we came third in a team event."
Anika Dutta (Upper Sixth) who is a Flight Sergeant and Head of training reflected: “This was my fourth and final annual RAST competition with the RAF section. Since first competing five years ago as a Year 9 student, it is clear to see we have come on leaps and bounds as a team. Despite not having trained together for over a year and a half, we put up a strong fight against more experienced teams. Every year that we have taken part, we have only got better and I have no doubt that we will reach nationals in the coming years. Aside from competing, it was also a fantastic opportunity to socialise with fellow RAF cadets from other schools in our region.”
