Miss Huckle (Head Rowing Coach)

On Sunday 28th November, BGS rowers headed to Wallingford Head for their final away fixture of 2021. With over 300 crews in attendance, Wallingford is a National level event attracting crews from clubs, schools and universities across the country at Junior, U23 and Senior level.

In a highly competitive field, our crews put in brilliant performances. Our senior 4+ of Amy Wallington, Lydia Franklin, Emily Coton and Rachel Gibb, coxed by Taty Stockwell finished in a fantastic 5th Place; whist our 8+ of Chloe Howe, Aimee King, Lottie Giles, Corinna Murphy, Hannah Russell, Emily Pinkney, Annie Hine and Millie Partridge coxed by Alex Gentry came in 9th. For a young crew against the best Junior Women’s Eights in the country, this was a great step up and a pleasing day of results all round.

It has been fantastic to have been back out and competing in a full race calendar over the Autumn Term, and this conclusion at Wallingford really showed the progress that the rowing programme has made over the past three months. A huge well done to all the students who have represented BGS on the water this term!

We now look forward to our Super 8s Fundraising Challenge this Saturday, where rowers will exercise non-stop for 8 hours raising funds for the Boat Club, and our very own BGS Christmas Head Race on Thursday 16th December, where every girl in the Boat Club will have the opportunity to compete on home water sporting their favourite festive accessories!
