On Thursday 7th July, a lucky select few of Lower Sixth tennis enthusiasts, accompanied by Mr Mason-McLeod and Miss Bentley, enjoyed a visit to Wimbledon.
With the 2022 competition heating up, Day 11 was a showcase for the women’s singles semi-finals with headliners Simona Halep, Ons Jabeur and eventual champion Elena Rybakina.
Mr Mason-McLeod said: “We were very fortunate to watch a fantastic men’s double semi-final which went to five sets. We also had the pleasure of watching some men’s wheelchair single matches, which was amazing to watch. We also were able to watch some U14 and U18 girls and boy’s tennis. The standard of tennis in these matches was so high and we were so lucky to watch such high performance grass tennis from such close proximity.”
Jemima Peacock (Lower Sixth) said: “Under the summer sun on Court 1, we were fortunate enough to watch the men’s doubles semi-finals, and what a match it was! With Joe Salisbury, one of the semi-finalists, being from the UK the crowd was ecstatic! And to finish a perfect day we sat on Henman Hill to watch some more great tennis.”
And finally, it would not be a Wimbledon experience without strawberries and cream, copious amounts of water and sun cream!
