Aviation enthusiast, Lucie Essex (Upper Sixth), took to the skies during the summer break and had an amazing opportunity in flying a small aircraft.
We spoke to Lucie about her flying experience, she said: “Just before our return to school, the Shuttleworth Collection of vintage aircraft held an Open Day. My family and I had the opportunity to fly in a range of small aircraft.
“The highlight of my day was having the chance to fly alongside a world champion aerobatic pilot in a Pitts Special stunt aircraft. Flying at around 2,000 feet, we were performing loops and rolls which was very exhilarating. Another aircraft I got to experience was a French trainer, previously used by the Mexican Air Force to teach their pilots.
“On this flight I was even able to take a picture of Bedford Girls’ School from the air! My day reinforced my interest in flying and ambition to become a pilot one day.”
We love hearing stories about how our students ‘broaden their horizons’ outside of school and look forward to following Lucie’s flying progress.
