On Wednesday 1st February 2023, for the second year at BGS, staff and students united for the 11th annual World Hijab Day, which was founded by Nazma Khan on 1st February 2013 as a way to recognise and reflect on Muslim women who choose to wear the headscarf (hijab).
The wearing of the hijab is often a very personal decision, for many, it gives a sense of community and spiritual identity. World Hijab Day sets out to challenge misconceptions and stand in solidarity with Muslim women in communities around the world.
Our students once again had the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of our community by actively participating in wearing a hijab, asking questions and discussing the hijab with their peers and staff, researching Muslim hijabi women pioneers, and also trying on the hijab in different styles.
