After a very successful District competition, two weeks ago at Sharnbrook after school, we had 20 students qualify to compete for North Beds at the County cross country running event on Wednesday 9th February at Ampthill Park.
It was a beautiful spring day, perfect for a run in the countryside. In the Year 7 competition Megan Barnicoat finished in first place closely followed by Violet Whitaker in second. The Year 7 teams do not qualify to the nationals, but it is a very exciting prospect for next year. Well done Megan and Violet.
The Year 8 and 9 runners formed the Junior Girls teams competing for places at the National event in Nottingham on Saturday 18th March. Zofia Wylezek finished in 9th place, awarding her a reserve place in the Bedfordshire County team.
The Year 10 and 11 runners ran together as part of the inter-girl’s competition. Jessica Parrish, Rosie Foster and Jess Wiggs qualified with a place at the Nationals. Sophie Forbes- Laird ran as part of the North Bedfordshire Senior team and came first overall; she has guaranteed herself a place at the nationals in Nottingham in March.
Many congratulations to all the athletes.
