Mrs Inkson (Head of Year 6)
The final week of the half term always brings about the sharing of all the work we have been doing at home on our Active Inquiry Homework.
Active Inquiry gives girls the opportunity to delve deeper into a topic linked to their Primary Years Programme (PYP) Unit of Inquiry. The focus is on developing their own lines of inquiry and managing their time throughout the half term in order to get the final piece of work completed on time.
As Year 6 have been learning about the impact of technological advances, we asked the girls to interview an older member of their family to find out how life has changed. First, they had to plan what questions they were going to ask, focusing on scientific and technological changes, rather than social changes. From the feedback we have had, it sounds like both the girls and family members had a great time sharing memories of technology (and the lack of!) in the past.
Once the girls had completed their interviews, they had to analyse what they had been told and make comparisons between the technology they were told about from the past and what technology is like now. We couldn’t believe that people carried a mobile phone in a suitcase or that the TV only had 3 channels!
We have really enjoyed sharing our Active Inquiry work with the classes this week. It gives us an excellent opportunity to spend time seeing what each other has been up to and to practise our presentation skills!
