Many congratulations to talented athletes Eloise Cole (Lower Sixth) and Megan Barnicoat (Year 9), who are recipients of the prestigious GLL Sport Foundation Athlete Award.

The swimmers are among 16 athletes selected from Bedford Borough for the 2024 intake of its Sports Foundation.

The GLL Sport Foundation is an organisation operated by the charitable social enterprise GLL to support talented athletes across the UK. Previous award holders include Olympic and Paralympic gold medallists Tom Daley and Ellie Simmonds.

During an awards ceremony last week, athletes across the borough were invited to the Bedford International Athletics Stadium for the GLL Sport Foundation Awards. Eloise was awarded the 2024 Talent Athlete Award, while Megan was awarded the 2024 Training Athlete Award.

The award programme comprises financial bursaries, training and access memberships, physiotherapy, and more, which will support Eloise and Megan in preparing for and participating in national and international competitions.

Mr Castro (Head of Swimming) reflected on these achievements: “It's great to see that hard work that Eloise and Megan put into their swimming being acknowledged, and for them to be receiving from GLL Sports Foundation which will allow them to continue to thrive in their pursuit of sporting excellence. It's a brilliant opportunity for them and their swimming clubs, and we look forward to them both continuing to race for BGS in upcoming school competitions.”
