On Tuesday 10th October, our Year 4 Red Mathematics group enjoyed investigating the properties of 3D shapes.
After looking at shapes in the classroom and manipulating models to discover how many faces, vertices and sides each shape has, we toured the school as detectives spotting 3D shapes in our environment.
The spherical lights above the main staircase caused much excitement! With photos recorded on their iPads, the girls imported them into ‘Pages’ and used their detective skills further to record the evidence. Once complete we got even more hands on to build 3D shapes using modelling dough and sticks- quite a challenge.
These fun activities help the girls to really think about the dimensions of regular 3D shapes and appreciate the need for accuracy.
