Year 6 Explore Constable Country

Trips and Excursions Junior School

On Monday 4th June, our very excited Year 6 girls departed on a three-day, two night residential to Flatford Mill, Suffolk.

The picturesque setting, featured in The Hay Wain by John Constable, allowed the girls to fully appreciate the outdoors and to explore natural habitats. The girls used their map reading and compass skills to navigate a route around the Flatford area, developed their special awareness by translating their observations into maps and measured rivers and streams to help understand their role in the landscape.

The eco-action activity used the story The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” This included drama activities, pollinator counting and seed planting to help girls consider how places will change in the future. Evenings included a night walk to challenge the senses and songs around the campfire.
