On Friday 27th September, Year 3 enjoyed a day of team building at Ickwell Bury, Bedford School’s nature reserve.

The morning started with a walk around the grounds, where they used their senses to discover the natural environment. We were lucky enough to encounter Watercress and Swans as well as other habitats, which supported our activities later on. The girls were able to see a natural Spring within the Bury, which is believed to be one of the springs which helped give Ickwell its name; meaning Gicca’s stream or spring.

After a quick snack under the canopy, the girls were split into three groups and completed three separate challenges; natural art; den building; s’mores and campfires, and a search for examples of Interdependency within the grounds. This developed the girl’s communication, imagination and scientific skills.

Mrs Martin, Head of Year 3, commented: “This is always an excellent opportunity for the girls to forge new friendships whilst working as a team. This year it was wonderful for Year 3 to have the opportunity to engage with their Unit of Science; Interdependency, in the natural environment of Ickwell Bury.”
